The lift company itself lists places to sleep on the mountain, from a hut in the UNESCO Tektonikarena Sardona to a hostel right on the slope, so your stay can start and end above the village rather than only in the valley.

Where to sleep

First stay or want the gondola outside the door: Laax Murschetg, at the LAAX valley station. Looking for an older village and a lake: Laax Dorf, a short walk away by the Senda dil Dragun. After a night above the slopes: Segneshütte, GALAAXY mountainhostel or the TCS summer glamping site.

Watch out

There is no railway station in Laax: Chur is the railhead, and the PostBus takes the rest of the way, so build that transfer into your journey time rather than expecting a train into the village. If a specific address matters to your dates, check first: Riders Hotel and GALAAXY mountainhostel open in winter only, and dogs beyond assistance and guide dogs are not allowed on the Senda dil Dragun walkway between the two villages.

Laax, before you book

Laax sits at 1016 m in Graubünden, split into two parts that share little more than a name. There is no railway station: Chur is the railhead, and a PostBus covers the rest, 40 minutes to the lift base at Murschetg or 53 minutes to the old village, Laax Dorf. By car, the resort is published as 30 minutes from Chur and 1 h 45 from Zürich. That one change at Chur, more than any lack of access, is the detail to plan around before you book.

Everything below the treeline turns on one choice: gondola or lake. Laax Murschetg is the purpose-built base at the LAAX valley station, where rocksresort and the signinahotel put the lift on the doorstep. About 1.5 km away, Laax Dorf is the older village around the Laaxersee, reached on foot by the 1.56 km Senda dil Dragun treetop walkway. Above both, the lift company itself lists places to sleep on the mountain, from one of the region’s oldest mountain huts to a hostel directly on the slope, a real alternative to sleeping in the valley below.

The hotels with dated Booking prices split into two tiers: the signinahotel, marked as the budget option, and two mid-range addresses, rocksresort itself and the winter-only Riders Hotel. Of the three, the signinahotel is the least expensive, with both the lowest starting rate and the lowest average, though its own dated samples show a winter night costing noticeably more than a summer one there. Casa Mulania, Hotel Posta Veglia in the old village and the mountain huts sit outside that price sample, so budget for them separately.

Winter runs from a pre-season on 28 November 2026 through the main season to 29 March 2027, then a shorter low season to 11 April. Summer has no single opening date: the Senda dil Dragun stays open all year, while the TCS pop-up glamping site above the village runs only from the end of June to mid-September, alongside 250 km of hiking trails shared with Flims and Falera. From Zürich HB, allow 2 h 04 for the journey, with one change at Chur onto the PostBus.

This is the base built for the lifts, not for atmosphere: rocksresort and the signinahotel sit directly at the LAAX valley station, the gondola on the doorstep, and the Riders Hotel a few steps further on. It suits anyone whose day starts and ends on skis or a board, especially with rocksresort’s own restaurants and stores close at hand. The trade-off is that Riders Hotel opens in winter only, and the older village and its lake sit about 1.5 km away.

Laax Dorf is the original village, gathered around the Laaxersee about 1.5 km from the lift base, with Hotel Posta Veglia standing as a traditional village house on the Via Principala. It suits travellers who want a lake and an older street pattern more than a doorstep gondola, and who do not mind the walk. The Senda dil Dragun treetop walkway covers that distance on foot, but it is still a proper crossing rather than a quick hop to Murschetg.

Shared with Flims and reached from Laax by the destination’s lifts and buses, this 8.6 km descent takes 3 h 30 downhill or 4 h 30 uphill, crossing seven bridges by the Grisons engineer Jürg Conzett. It won the Prix Rando 2014, but it is passable only when the ground is free of snow and ice.

Drive and park

By car, Laax is published as 30 minutes from Chur, 1 h 45 from Zürich, and 20 minutes from the Reichenau motorway exit. Reserve a covered Inside Parking space by QR code before you arrive, since the Laax Murschetg garage runs on that system, with published rates from free for 30 minutes to CHF 32.80 for 24 hours and EV charging at rocksresort.

No railway, only the PostBus

Chur is the railhead, not Laax: the PostBus takes 40 minutes to Laax GR, Bergbahnen, or 53 minutes to Laax GR, Posta in the village, and Zürich HB to Laax runs 2 h 04 with that one change. Build the bus connection into your schedule rather than expecting a direct train into the village.

Airport transfer

A winter transfer from Zurich Airport is published at CHF 79, and must be reserved 48 hours ahead. Book it as soon as your flight is confirmed rather than on arrival, since that lead time is the minimum the operator accepts.

Dogs and the treetop walkway

The Senda dil Dragun is open on foot, by wheelchair or by stroller only, and dogs are not allowed except assistance and guide dogs on a lead; entry is from CHF 22. Plan another way between Murschetg and the old village if you are travelling with a pet dog that does not qualify.
