Where to sleep

Skiing is the priority: Médran, at the foot of the lifts to Les Ruinettes. First stay, or want the shops and the tourist office within steps: Place Centrale, where the bus from Le Châble sets down. Looking for quiet: Les Creux, on the slope towards Savoleyres.

Verbier, before you book

Verbier sits at 1500 metres in the municipality of Val de Bagnes, and the road runs right into the village, with car parks at Catogne, Ermitage, Périn and Marais Vert. Arrive by rail instead and you reach Le Châble below, then cover the final stretch by gondola to Médran or by bus to the central square, both for the same fare, what the tourist office calls the final twenty minutes.

Three sectors decide where to sleep. Médran, at the bottom of the village, is where the Le Châble gondola arrives and where the lifts leave for Les Ruinettes, the obvious base for skiers. Place Centrale holds the shops, the bars and the tourist office, and is where the bus from Le Châble sets down. Les Creux, a quieter residential slope to the north, is where the cable car to Savoleyres departs, further from Médran and better reached with a hotel shuttle.

The hotel range runs from three-star to five, all within the three sectors above. The W Verbier, a five-star address at Médran, is the only hotel in our dated sample priced across both seasons, and winter nights there run well above the summer rate. Hôtel Bristol, in Les Creux, is the least expensive address of the selection, with breakfast and a sauna included.

Winter here runs roughly from November to late April, though the exact 2026/27 dates were not yet published at the time of writing, so confirm them before you book. Summer brings 500 km of hiking trails and the Verbier Festival of classical music, from 15 July to 1 August 2027. Allow about two and a half hours by train from Geneva or four from Zurich, or thirty minutes by car from Martigny if you are driving in.

Médran

The foot of the lifts

Médran is where you land after the gondola from Le Châble and where the lifts leave for Les Ruinettes, so it suits skiers who want the shortest possible walk each morning. The W Verbier and Hôtel Les Chamois sit right on the street, and Hôtel Mirabeau puts itself less than a minute on the flat from the lift departure. The trade-off is distance from the shops and the tourist office up at Place Centrale.

Place Centrale

The village centre

Place Centrale is the village centre, with the shops, the bars and the tourist office within reach, and it is where the bus from Le Châble sets down at Station Poste. Hotel Vanessa gives 50 m to the square and 350 m to the Médran lifts, and Hôtel Ermitage stands right next to the tourist office. Choose this side for convenience off the slopes rather than for the shortest route to the lifts.

Les Creux

The north side, towards Savoleyres

Les Creux is the quieter, more residential slope north of the centre, where the cable car to Savoleyres departs. La Cordée des Alpes gives less than 500 m to the village centre and either fifteen minutes on foot or five by its own shuttle to the lifts, a pattern shared by the hotels on this side. The trade-off is that Médran and its lifts to Les Ruinettes sit further away.

A one-way route from Verbier, reached from Les Ruinettes or La Chaux, down to Fionnay, climbing to 2265 m with a few exposed sections over five hours, a full day for confident walkers. A bus brings you back to Le Châble at the end.

A there-and-back walk of about 2.2 km at roughly 2300 m between La Chaux and Les Ruinettes, which the tourist office calls its most popular and easiest route, a good pick if the Sentier des Chamois sounds like too much.

Reached through Les Ruinettes, La Chaux and Col des Gentianes, Mont-Fort is the highest point of the 4 Vallées at 3330 m. In summer 2026 the cable car to the top ran 09:15 to 13:00 and 14:30 to 15:30, so plan around the midday gap rather than expecting to time lunch at the summit.
The Le Châble to Verbier gondola05:10 to 23:55, all year
The only lift in the resort counted as part of the regional public transport timetable, a status it has held since 12 December 2021, running continuously from Le Châble up to Médran from 05:10 to 23:55. That makes it a genuine transport link rather than just a ski lift, useful even on a non-ski day to move between the two villages.

Getting to Verbier, in practice

By train to Le Châble

Le Châble is the nearest railhead, with published times of 1 h 10 from Sion, 1 h 40 from Lausanne, 2 h 40 from Geneva and 4 h from Zurich. Plan your journey to Le Châble first, then add the gondola or bus for the last stretch into Verbier itself.

The last leg, Le Châble to Verbier

A gondola to Médran or a bus to Station Poste on the central square covers the last stretch at the same fare, what the tourist office calls the final 20 minutes. The gondola runs continuously from 05:10 to 23:55, close to around the clock, so a late train from Geneva or an early one to the airport rarely means missing the connection.

By car

Allow about 30 minutes by car from Martigny. Car parks sit inside Verbier itself at Catogne, Ermitage, Périn and Marais Vert, or you can leave the car for free for up to 10 days at the foot of the lifts in Le Châble and finish the trip by gondola or bus instead.

The direct weekend train

The Verbier Express / VosAlpes Express runs from Geneva Airport and from Fribourg at weekends and on public holidays all year, with a 30% reduction on a 1-day or half-day ski pass. It is worth timing weekend travel around this service if you are arriving from Geneva Airport without a car.

Continuously from 05:10 to 23:55, all year, except on maintenance days when extra buses run instead. That near round-the-clock schedule means a late train from Geneva or an early flight home rarely rules out Verbier as a base, since the last leg is almost always running when you need it.

Should I stay in Verbier or down in Le Châble?

Le Châble has the train station and free parking for up to 10 days at the foot of the lifts, while Verbier has the shops, the tourist office and the Médran lift station. Choose Le Châble mainly if you are driving and want free parking; otherwise stay in Verbier itself, since the gondola linking the two runs from 05:10 to 23:55 and the walk to the shops or lifts is shorter from up there.
